San Diego Zoo hotel of a different stripe
There are plenty of places to see wild life in San Diego, from the dolphins frolicking in the waves of Pacific Beach to the late-night scene in the Gaslamp. But nothing really comes close to the amazing encounters you’ll experience at the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. Just a quick bus or trolley ride from downtown, the 100-acre site in Balboa Park has been a San Diego icon for nearly a century. It’s home to 4,000 animals who are displayed in authentic habitat ranging from sub-Saharan Africa to the cloud forests of Asia. Must-sees include the Australian Outback and its colony of 24 koalas, the bamboo forest habitat of the Panda Trek exhibit and the Elephant Odyssey. The ways of getting around here are almost as varied as the exotic animals and include a double-decker bus, insider Backstage Pass tour and for the big picture, the Skyfari aerial tram.
