Go Wild in San Diego

San Diego Zoo's Premier Hotel

Book a boutique hotel near the San Diego Zoo

There are plenty of places to see wildlife in San Diego, from the dolphins frolicking in the waves of Pacific Beach to the late-night scene in the Gaslamp District. But nothing really comes close to the amazing encounters you’ll experience at the world-renowned San Diego Zoo, located just 2 miles from Kimpton Hotel Palomar San Diego.

Home to 4,000 animals housed in authentic habitats ranging from sub-Saharan Africa to the cloud forests of Asia, the San Diego Zoo is also a conservation organization working to save endangered species around the world. Must-sees include the Australian Outback and its colony of 24 koalas, the bamboo forest habitat of the Panda Trek exhibit, and the Elephant Odyssey. The ways of getting around here are almost as varied as the exotic animals and include a double-decker bus, insider Backstage Pass tour and for the big picture, the Skyfari aerial tram.

The zoo is a short drive from our hotel, and is also easily accessible via a 10-minute bus ride on MTS route 7 or 215. If you’re traveling with your own four-legged companion, you’re in luck – Kimpton welcomes pets of all shapes and sizes, with no fees or deposits required.
